Representatives from the Biker Group Groundworks team attended the opening ceremony of the new 27,000sq ft Hangar at Teesside International Airport on Tuesday 1st October

The £6.5 million aircraft painting facility for Airbourne Colours is the first of 2 new hangars at Teesside Airport, which will provide a key development to attract further investment and expansion and create many additional jobs in the region.

Biker Group Groundworks were appointed by the principal contractor, Barnard Castle-based S&A Fabrications, and worked collaboratively to deliver the groundworks package for the hangar.

The scope of the groundworks involved site preparation works, reinforced pad foundations, internal floor slab, external apron and turning area for aircraft, and all associated drainage works. Despite challenging weather conditions, the package was delivered on programme, which supported the hangar being opened on time.

The groundworks team were able to source materials and services in-house, by integrating other Biker Group divisions to deliver the project seamlessly and efficiently. Biker Group Concrete supplied 300m3 of RC40 concrete for the pad foundations, 800m3 of RC40 concrete for the floor slab and 600m3 of PAV2 concrete for the external apron from their Dalton and Catterick concrete plants.

The holistic approach was furthered by using Biker Group Haulage & Aggregates, who efficiently supplied 4,500 tonnes of Type 1 sub-base for the Hangar floor and external apron.
